From the President

How quickly things can change!

On Monday 12 July I was listening to members enthusing about how wonderful it was to be back at classes again after a lengthy break, and how much they enjoyed the intellectual stimulation and the social connection that our classes offer.  Just four days later, we were back in lockdown.  Let’s hope that we can get on top of this latest outbreak soon.

On a positive note, it is pleasing to know that so many of our members are vaccinated…

U3A plays vital role in ageing well!

A recent report produced by Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians, has highlighted the key attributes of ageing well, including respect, financial and personal security, health, autonomy, and mobility. Loneliness was consistently cited as a major issue of concern for many seniors with over 40% feeling that they lacked friendship and company.

We’re turning 31!

Please put Wednesday 8 September in your calendar. U3A Nunawading is about to celebrate its 31st anniversary. Our 30th anniversary last year was postponed due to COVID, so we are hoping to hold a fun event in the Hub this year for members. We’ll provide more information closer to the date. I hope that you are feeling more settled in our new home despite COVID restrictions keeping us further apart from one another (1.5 metres!) than we would like to be. So begins another year! I hope that 2021 will be easier than last year for all of us.

Finally, after a long wait, the new Nunawading Community Hub is opening in January! On Tuesday 8 December half of our Committee of Management had their first official tour of the new Hub, and on Thursday 10 December, we began moving in. Pictured here are some of the Committee taking a well-earned break from unpacking.

Due to Covid restrictions numbers allowed into the Hub at present are strictly limited and you cannot enter without an appointment. The first opportunity U3A members will have of visiting the Hub will be when they attend Summer School classes.

President’s Message

I hope you are all feeling a little more positive now that the number of new COVID cases is falling, and restrictions are beginning to ease.

The Committee of Management met this week (pictured on Zoom) and made a number of decisions with respect to enrolment for next year and Summer School.

Enrolment for 2021 classes will open to current members on …
