Delighted member wins delayed raffle

After a year’s delay due to the 2020 Covid lockdowns and our move to the Nunawading Community Hub, our Patchwork Doona Cover raffle was finally drawn during Meryl McEwan’s Patchwork 2 class on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Winning ticket holder Vivian Diep was absolutely delighted when she received a phone call to advise her that she had won. Vivian is pictured here with her prize a few days later.

The stunning patchwork cover was made by former Patchwork Leader Jill Bale, who sadly passed away in 2019.

Jill’s family donated the item to U3A Nunawading early last year and asked that it be raffled and the proceeds be given to one of the organisations supporting bushfire victims. Our Committee of Management chose BlazeAid, a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods.

The raffle raised just over $900 and the Committee decided to round that figure up to a donation of $1000.

BlazeAid was established following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. To learn more visit
