Seniors Festival Online as we move to opening up

Liz Hooper

As we enter our seventh week of lockdown I hope you are keeping well and staying connected in whatever way you can. The sooner we reach our vaccination milestones the sooner we can all get back to seeing each other at U3A.

Despite COVID restrictions there are lots of special activities planned for October’s Seniors Festival. Our thanks go to our Class Leaders who are offering online classes as part of the Whitehorse program.

Whitehorse Seniors Festival

After a few years’ break, we are again participating in the Whitehorse Seniors Festival, which will run throughout October with a range of online classes and tours of our classes at the Hub.

Thank you to the following Class Leaders who are offering Zoom classes to the Seniors of Whitehorse: Paulina Chong, Betsy Gummer and Chris Winterbine – Dance, Fitness & Zumba; Lesley Sinfield – Tai Chi QiGong; Lan Tiet – Line Dancing; Helen Smith – How to Spot a Scam and Wayne Henry – A Smartphone as a Useful Travel Companion.

Depending on the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time, we will also be hosting members of the public for one-hour tours of the Hub to learn more about U3A on 5, 12, 21 and 27 October.

You can access the full Whitehorse Seniors Program here.

Victorian Seniors Festival

Although Celebration Day at Federation Square and the Seniors Expo at the Melbourne Town Hall Hub have been cancelled this year due to COVID-19, there are lots of online activities which are available at

Vaccination is the only way forward

Your Committee of Management strongly encourages all U3A Nunawading members to follow medical advice and get vaccinated so that we can all enjoy a safe return to classes at the Hub as soon as Council allows us back in.

Victoria has reached an important goal of 70% first vaccinations against COVID-19 allowing us a few more freedoms. Over the next 6-8 weeks, we expect to reach targets of 70% and 80% of our population fully vaccinated at which point we have been promised more freedoms particularly if we are fully vaccinated.
