So begins another year! I hope that 2021 will be easier than last year for all of us.
Nunawading Community Hub
One piece of good news is that the new Nunawading Community Hub has been officially open to the public since 6 January. The Committee of Management moved our belongings from Silver Grove and set up our IT and telephone systems in mid-December. Many Class Leaders have already had induction tours to see the facilities they will be using.
It is certainly an amazing building with lots of lovely natural light and space – so different from our previous accommodation! We have ample storage space for our equipment, which is more than we had anticipated. It is going to be a pleasure to be in such a lovely environment.
Checking in to the Hub – We now have our own QR code for COVID-19 contact tracing through the Victorian Government app. So before you come to the Hub, please download the app onto your smartphone so you can register your attendance at U3A Nunawading. See our Bulletin Board item for more information.
One of our Class Leaders, Margaret Risley, has made a magnificent video, which really showcases the Hub perfectly.
Our own flash mob
In lieu of its annual 2020 Spring Festival, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus, Whitehorse City Council offered a range of online activities for Seniors Festival. When COVID-19 restrictions eased in December, Council organised a range of pop-up activities. Paulina Chong, one of U3A Nunawading’s Zumba Leaders, was invited to do a flash mob activity with 10 of her dancers in Box Hill and another 10 in Mitcham, including Betsy Gumma and Chris Winterbine, our two other Zumba Leaders. The flash mobs were not advertised as the purpose was to entertain the traders rather than to attract crowds. See our flash mobs in action below. They are fabulous and hopefully this year they will be able to perform for crowds once more.
Stay safe and healthy – see you soon!
Sadly, we are back to wearing masks until we get on top of this latest COVID-19 outbreak. Let’s hope we can quash this outbreak quickly. Meanwhile we will continue to operate all activities under stringent COVID-19- restrictions. Please also remember to wear your nametag for easy identification at the Hub.
We hope to see you all over the next month or so, either at Summer School or at one of our regular classes. Enrolment opens on 21 January – read on for more information.
Warm regards to you all!
