As we come to the end of a very successful, if somewhat chilly, term, there are a few items I want to remind you about and some classes you may like to join from the beginning of Term 3.
Also, as an example of ageing well, one of our most senior members celebrated her 98th birthday at the end of May, proving U3A is the place to be for healthy, active ageing.
– We are offering an exciting new creative movement class starting shortly and we still have vacancies in a range of current classes.
– For your convenience, you can now request to withdraw from any of your classes online instead of having to do it at the office.
– Unfortunately, we have received a number of reports recently from members who have tested positive to Covid-19. Please do not come to the Hub if you are feeling at all unwell even if you haven’t had a positive test result.
After two stop-start years, it is great to have had an uninterrupted Term 1, where almost all classes operated face-to-face at the Hub and our off-site classes also had a clear run.
We have a number of new classes starting in Term 2 and members who have not yet paid their membership fees should do so as soon as possible.
We have a number of new and interesting short courses starting in Term 2, but we are always looking for more potential Class Leaders who have an interest or particular skill they want to share. Our Scrabble Class is looking for additional members and if you have been accepted into at least one class you should have paid your fees by now.
We hope you are happily settling in to your 2022 classes. In the first week of term we ran over 200 classes with more than 1750 members coming through the Hub.
Thank you for your patience as the Course Admin Team dealt with the various changes to classes and the other incidentals that were thrown at us as we returned.
It is exciting to have seven new courses added to our program this year and to have our new Class Leaders drawn from within our membership and from outside U3A.
While many popular classes are full, there is quite a lot of movement in the first few weeks as enrolments settle down.
I do hope you have all been accepted into at least one class of your choice. If you have not, be assured we are working with our Leaders and room space to see if we can address this problem.
In other news, we said farewell to several leaders who are not continuing. A great big thank you to these members who have given of their time to share their skills with so many.
When you select classes for 2022 make sure you check the details, time, venue and day, as there have been some changes from 2021. You will find some new Course Codes. How exciting. We are so pleased to advise that a limited number of classes can return to face-to-face learning for the last three weeks of term 4.
If you have not been contacted about returning to class, then it means your class could not be held under the current restrictions. Unfortunately, we are unable to use many of our rooms, as class numbers would not fit within the 4-sq mt rule.
COVID-19 has forced us into a number of changes, including postponing our first Four O’Clock Forum, closing the Hub with its beautiful new painted walkways, as well as moving back to Zoom for a number of classes.
